[edit]I question the choice of using a standard disambiguation page, rather than what I would think is more appropriate, where precipitation is the meteorological meaning and contains a link to precipitation (chemistry). The vast majority of links to precipitation are going to be for the meteorological meaning IMHO, at least from what I can see from using the "What links here". Unless someone objects, I will consider making this change in a few days or so. RedWolf 03:56, Mar 26, 2004 (UTC)
- You're dead right about most of the links going to the weather article. I'm disambiguating ppt at the moment, don't let it put your plan though. T 23:52, 27 Mar 2004 (UTC)

- I did post it on the Village Pump but the topic has already been archived (but I did find your reply). My suggested change is one of the standard disambiguation options. It most cases, the current method selected in having a standard disambiguation page works fine for me. In this case, however, I think one of the other options (as pointed out above) is more suitable IMHO. Since the chemistry definition is relatively obscure (to most people I think), I think the most well known definition should be "front and center". Look at London for example. - Ha! Found this after I had mostly replaced all the links with the disambig precipitation (meteorology), oh well. Bob Palin 06:03, 4 Apr 2004 (UTC}

– Precipitation (meteorology) is by and large WP:PRIMARY use for 'Precipitation'. Other uses are much more obscure, and refer to Precipitation (chemistry), a less interesting concept for general public. In terms of monthly page views, chemistry has ~28100, meteorology ~66500, and this dab page ~8440, which to me indicates a large number of false hits. No such user (talk) 11:32, 14 June 2013 (UTC)
- Support, per the nominator. ╠╣uw [talk] 23:01, 14 June 2013 (UTC)
- Oppose given the huge number of hits on the chemistry usage. Dicklyon (talk) 03:58, 15 June 2013 (UTC)
- Page views are just one indicator. First, let us observe that meteorology page gets 3x more hits than chemistry, so everyone searching for it will get misdirected (as was over 10% of users, judging on page views of the dab page). Second, first dozen pages of Google search refer only to the meteorological term (I've lost the patience waiting for chemistry term to appear). Granted, the chemistry usage gets some ~30% of total hits on Google Scholar (rough estimate), but we're general-purpose encyclopedia first and foremost. See also the section above. - Support per nom. The meteorological term is definitely the primary meaning. -- Necrothesp (talk) 12:33, 18 June 2013 (UTC)
- Huge support. Really? Really? I'm stunned this was the status quo. Wow. Red Slash 05:54, 20 June 2013 (UTC)

Political use?
[edit]Is there a common use in politics or parliamentary process? Dilatory motions and tactics#Other meanings cites Jeremy Bentham seeming to use the word precipitation to refer to the fallout from rash decisions. Might there be other documentation on this usage of the word? D. F. Schmidt (talk) 16:14, 20 March 2015 (UTC)
