New Template

Name of Station
[edit]There seems to be argument about the name of the station. The official name of the interurban part of the station is 'Central', as is shown on all Intercity Cityrail timetables, and all modern signage inside the station. The name 'Sydney Terminal' is still referred to often, but it is not an official name, so I will revert to the previous edit on this but will note that the previous name is still often used. If you can show me that this is not the case then it will be removed. (JROBBO 05:42, 27 December 2005 (UTC))
- The only places where "Sydney Terminal" remains used is in station announcements where the need to separate the intercity and suburban platforms (which may suggest that a different code may be used to distinguish the two "sides"...), but otherwise with signage, trackwork info, etc. I agree; it's definitely "Central", or "Central (platforms 1-15)" at best where the intercity platforms have to be mentioned specifically. (At one point in the 2000s - 2003 or 2004 IIRC - there was also a transitional phase where "Central Terminal" was used in timetables only, but that is no longer the case, and I doubt anyone else ever called it that compared to either of "Central" or "Sydney Terminal".) -Spiky Sharkie [ talk ] 13:31, 8 February 2006 (UTC)
Neighbouring Stations Table

Station for UNSW
[edit]Central station is the station for all students of UNSW who live beyond the Eastern Suburbs, and hence it definately deserves a mention considering the sheer volume of students that get off there. I added a point about that the other day (I believe), yet it was taken away, I shall add it again. Nebuchanezzar 02:03, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
- It's not relevant to that part of the article - Sydney Uni and UTS are the direct stations in close proximity to Redfern and Central respectively - it doesn't matter if there is a short walk, they are reached directly. Sydney Uni is also a suburb, which gives it extra reason to put it in the article as a neighbouring suburb of the station. UNSW is not directly served by a railway station nor is it within walking distance of the station - it is served by a bus from Central. For the same reason, Macquarie University is not mentioned under Epping station (even though it is the closest station); but when the new station opens it will get a mention there. Under the bus services section, the fact that there are direct express buses to UNSW is a relevant fact and there should be a paragraph or so on that fact. Please put something in there (more than my sentence), but not at the top. (JROBBO 07:02, 30 May 2006 (UTC))
Taking a look at this Sydway Street Directory, UNSW, USyd and Macquarie Uni all have their own suburbs, with the former two having their own post codes. Nebuchanezzar 12:36, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
Platforms
[edit]Ok, I have been reading this article and Im just thinking how freaking old is it?
Platforms 27 and 28 service the City Circle and the East Hills lines respectively. I will not change it because the other platforms would face duplication aswell (of which I'm not aware of their purposes.) - Central only has 25 platforms with two extra constructed but not used or connected to the network. If what you mean by actual services that 'service' them? is a list of when a perticular train arrives and where, then I'd like to remind you that Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information. Central MLR Station

No - there's not enough info to sustain two separate articles. This should be kept until there's enough info on the station itself. It is, after all, a transport interchange (together with Railway Square). (JROBBO 07:58, 27 September 2006 (UTC))
Usage numbers and Australia's busiest

- It's very hard to get passenger figures from CityRail, but that would be good. I think Australia's busiest station would be either Town Hall or Wynyard station, not Central. Central isn't the busiest station on the network, but it's certainly number 2 or 3 IIRC. JRG 00:53, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

- Actually Central is the busiest station when you include the intercity trains as well. I recently emailed Cityrail about station patronage and Central had 89,000 per day whereas Town Hall had 77,000 and Wynyard had only 55,000. The busiest station in Australia is actually in Melboune I think. I forgot which one but one of Melbourne's stations is used by 110,000 a day. YuMaNuMa (talk) 13:44, 21 September 2011 (UTC)
airport line

- The page is correct. The Airport and East Hills line uses the above ground platforms (either platsform 20 - 23). The non used platforms (except for storage) are still there, directly above platforms 24 & 25. There is talk of using them for the proposed Redfern to Chatswood railway line, Sydney. - The station looks pretty much the same in the photo as what it does today and the historical photo shows the station in its entirety. The image displayed here is a fake hdr photo that shouldn't really be in the article. I do have a more natural looking image taken from the same angle but not quite as wide as this one. ***Adam*** (talk)

- What you deleted from the Infobox are "succession templates" that give information about the lines and previous and next stations and allows you to navigate along each line. - Waterloo is not quite the same as the perceived problem here. The conflict is between the platform assignments and the successsion information being apparently the same. I think the article is large enough to easily accomodate the longer Infobox - but it might be nice if {{{services}}} was made collapsible. Sw2nd (talk)

- Heavily faked images like the one displayed have no place on Wikipedia. Please do not alter the photo's. Use manual exposure and try to match the lighting conditions as much as possible. Olympic Park Line
[edit]The infobox currently shows services on line 7, but the article for Olympic Park Line indicates that the service doesn't reach Sydney's Central railway station. Can somebody with proper knowledge of the situation please make the necessary changes? Thanks, PKT(alk) 19:32, 8 April 2015 (UTC) It is covered by "Occasional services only" in the infobox or the platform list "Special event limited stops services to Olympic Park". These special events are also included in the Olympic Park Line article "During major events at Sydney Olympic Park, train services run direct from the intercity platforms of Central, also sometimes stopping at Redfern and Strathfield" The same applies to Redfern and Strathfield.Fleet Lists (talk) 22:13, 8 April 2015 (UTC)

- Oppose – It's not true, in general, that "placenames take all caps". It depends. The article suggests that the station name is Central, or Sydney Central, in which case the generic "railway station" part would not be part of a proper name, and we'd use lowercase. - Oppose. If anything, it would be "Central Station", a nickname for "Central railway station". "Sydney Central" sounds made up. "Central (railway station), Sydney" would be a logical construction. Station 15
[edit]In the Sydney Metro newsletter covering July to September 2018 it makes note that the existing (now-demolished) Platform 15 is/was not used for train service. Perhaps someone who can properly cite this and is more familiar with this station and can confirm this can add that fact. It also needs to be corrected in the infobox, as it currently says only the two existing underground platforms (24 & 25) are unused. Apparently, once the underground metro station is built, platforms 13 & 14 will be rebuilt, but it's unclear what will replace platform 15. If anyone can find that out, that'd be great.
