Talk:Flintshire (traditional)
I am extremely unhappy at the state of this article, and of all the articles describing the Welsh counties. It is totally deceptive and misleading in that it describes the pre-1974 county which bears very little commonality with the area which anyone living in the area would now call "Flintshire".
Of the "chief towns" listed, Bangor-is-y-Coed (and why is the Welsh name being used in the English Wikipedia when we don't give Bwcle, Cei Connah, Y Fflint, Treffynnon, Yr Wyddgrug, Y Rhyl, and Llanelwy?? - call it Bangor on Dee to be consistent) is in Wrexham county borough, Prestatyn, Rhyl and St Asaph are in Denbighshire, the River Clwyd is nowhere within the county boundary. Of the places of special interest, Rhuddlan Castle, St Asaph Cathedral, and Rhyl Sun Centre are not in the county. The "main industry" of steelworking died two decades ago!!!!
I'm rather miffed that 80.255 saw fit to remove the plain "caution" notice I put at the top of the article two weeks ago -- it's OK to mention that in the past the borders of "Flintshire" incorporated particular area, but it is completely unacceptable to claim that the pre-1974 boundaries still exist (see the tense employed in describing the old exclaves) -- the old county died in 1974 and has no relevance now -- to quote Max Boyce, "I know, 'cos I was there!".

- As usual you are mixing up the present administrative area with the historic county. Just because administrative areas shared the same name as counties between 1888 and 1974 does not mean that administrative changes affect the real county. There is no such thing as a pre-1974 county, therefore it IS acceptable to 'claim' that these still exist. What died in 1974 was the ADMINISTRATIVE county, not the geographical area. Please read the Local Government Acts 1888, and 1974 before you claim that a geographical area with nothing to do with local government has died. Owain Vaughan 14:35, 7 Nov 2003
