Gossamer Phoenix removed
[edit]I recognize this is a pretty substantial edit to make, so I encourage anyone reading this to undo it if they can provide any citation.
I removed the follwing;
"One little known addition to the Gossamer family of aircraft is the Gossamer Phoenix, which was not completed. The concept was for a solar-assisted, human-powered autogyro. The project was scrapped after the amount of power required to maintain level flight was found to be improbably large for a human to sustain, even with solar assistance. Little is known about the Gossamer Phoenix' origins. Speculation on the name of the project includes a theory that the project was revived from near-cancellation several times before it was finally scrapped for good. The prototype of the Gossamer Phoenix was painted black and sold to eccentric billionaire Bruce Wayne several years after the project was cancelled, and it has not surfaced since then."
I could find no citations on the web for any craft called the Gossamer Phoenix and with the obviously absurd Bruce Wayne reference, I took the chance that the entire thing was fictional, and cut it. I found references for all the other craft mentioned.
- The adding of the section and the comment about Bruce Wayne were made by two separate anonymous users, so we can't fairly judge the one by the other. [1] [2]
- However, given the lack of useful edits by the initial author, in addition to the lack of citations, I agree that it was most likely made up. Incidentally, the anonymous user who added the like about Bruce Wayne has an interesting track record, alternating between constructive and nonconstructive edits. Makes me wonder if there's actually more than one user behind that IP... or if it's just one really wierd person. -FunnyMan 20:16, 12 June 2006 (UTC)
Changed last line of first paragraph from "... to win the second Kremer Prize" to "..., becoming the second aircraft to win the Kremer Prize." The purpose of the change was to remove any possible inference that the Albatross somehow won second place. -- Anonymous
Flight Section
[edit]This article really needs more on the milestone flight of this craft other than a casual mention of its distance and time. A separate section or (if it exists) a link to the article on the flight should be added. 64.3.33.116 (talk) 18:29, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
Solar Challenger
[edit]The Solar Challenger needs its own article. Now. None of this 'redirect' crap. --Ragemanchoo (talk) 10:10, 20 July 2008 (UTC)
5 feet up?
[edit]Is this mostly ground effect? If so, what happens if one goes off a cliff? -lysdexia 04:12, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
Any references to the "Gossamer Falcon"" ?
[edit]Which was the precursor to the G-Albatross, but it appears to be beyond the reach of even Google. I think that the old Time-Life book on "Flight" had it. It would be interesting if this info could be found. Much of the knowledge that went into the building of the Albatross came from the Falcon. 203.51.78.204 (talk) 09:04, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
