Hola Darren.

(I'll write in English just in case).

Now Asistencia Asesoria y Administracion redirects to Asistencía Asesoria y Administración. Actually, it should redirect to Asistencia Asesoría y Administración. I would move Asistencía Asesoria y Administración to Asistencia Asesoría y Administración myself, but I'm new to the English Wikipedia and can't do it.

Héctor Garza

[edit]

Hello Darren!

I totally agree with you that there was no Héctor Garza, Sr. I only listed him as Jr. on the List of WCW stars because that is how they billed him when he wrestled there. I made that page with the intention that the names that they were billed under while working for WCW were the names I filed them under. I don't know why they billed him as Junior...in fact I wondered each time he came out because I knew there was no Senior. But that was the way WCW did things. I did not get the impression that they cared too much about how they booked the luchadores or if they had their names wrong.

I just wanted to explain why I have it listed as Junior. I know it should not have been but the higher-ups in WCW chose to call him that.

I also wanted to say that you are doing a great job with the wrestling articles that you have edited. Thanks! --W(t) 15:50, 2005 Jun 13 (US ET)

That is really strange, it would be hard to argue logic with the WCW big wigs. WCW is your expertise so I'll trust you. I'll make note of this in the Héctor

Garza article.--Darren Jowalsen 20:36, Jun 13, 2005 (UTC)

Wrestler Names on Articles

[edit]

Hello Darren! I noticed that you changed alot of wrestlers' pages back to their stage names. That is totally OK by me but I also noticed that you forgot to change their name in the category listings. An example of what this does is if I was to go to the Professional wrestlers category and look for Bob Armstrong (which is what I would normally do but most other users on Wikipedia in the wrestling world seem to want me to look him up as Joseph James-I am still confused about that!), I cannot find him under the A names because he is still listed in the category as Joseph James. If I go to the J names, he is listed as Bob Armstrong but is filed under the name on his profile under the categories. I will attempt to correct these but I don't know when I will have the time since there are so many. I really wish that every user in the wrestling realm of Wikipedia would agree on guidelines for this and stick to it. It would be so much easier! Again, I agree that we should use the best known name, but I think we are the minority and I decided to attempt to make every article use the same guidelines that I was told to use or I would not have changed anything. I think you do a good job on your articles and I hope you continue to create more! Thanks! --phatcat68 11:16, 8 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The logic behind changing the article names on pro wrestling performers to their stage names is flawed in most cases. Most wrestlers are listed under their real names in IMDB, and now have Screen Actors Guild membership under their real names. In selective cases (such as Stone Cold Steve Austin or The Rock) it is somewhat appropriate, since those stage names have been used outside of wrestling and/or those individuals have been credited in non-wrestling productions under those names. Hulk Hogan and Jesse Ventura have also gained public notoriety under their stage names. However, the vast majority of wrestling biographies here are listed under the performer's real name, and there is no valid justification to change them. Chadbryant 23:05, 29 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
The style guide says use the most common name. When someone is always referred as Shane Douglas, putting their article under Troy Martin is pointless and flawed as well. It's a case of playing it by ear, rather than with cold rules. There are also the problem of sometimes dubious sources for real names. So unless they are a relatively new wrestler who may change his name or there is disambiguation involved, stage names should be used. Just because professional wrestlers don't get Oscars or are as respected as actors or musicians, doesn't mean they needed to be treated lower than them. Natalie Portman and Woody Allen achieve fame with those names, so their articles are under those names. Wrestlers are no different. Bobo Brazil was famous as Bobo Brazil but just because he's a wrestler, he shouldn't have an article under the name he was known for?--Darren Jowalsen 00:07, August 30, 2005 (UTC)

The fact is 98% of all wrestlers names are stage names. Only 'smarks' throw around wrestlers real names to try and create the illusion they are 'in the know'. The vast majority of the wrestling fanbase has NO idea, and probably doesnt care about, a wrestlers real name. Those are the people who, for the most part, would come to Wiki to look up information. The image you uploaded, Image:Buddy rogers.jpg, has no source information. The image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, ie in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. José Alvarado-Nieves

[edit]

It should stay José Alvarado-Nieves because it looks like, to me, that Alvarado-Nieves is his full last name. If it's his name, it should be that way. I don't think it would hurt anything by keeping it there. — Moe ε 19:52, 26 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about that. I had never heard of either wrestler, and the fact that both links were red lead me to believe that they were not-notable American independent wrestlers. Luchadore names

[edit]

I'm not saying that listing a real name of a wrestler is a must, but I don't really see why not. This is a dictionary, and I certainly don't think we should hide a persons name just because they choose to wrestler under a mask, even if they're Mexican. B.J. Whitmer does request that his real name isn't listed anywhere, and I don't see a reason to not follow that.

If you wish to have an "official" policy, then bring up a discussion on the project talk and let's have a vote, but don't go around saying there's a tradition to hide information when the tradition, atleast to my knowledge, has been to list real names if they are publicly known.
Lakes (Talk) 19:08, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Like I said, open a discussion in the project page so the whole project can discuss and possibly vote on a real name guideline.

Andre the Giant

[edit]

In response to your request on my user page. The trainer I spoke of was one of his early wrestling trainers, I'll have to dig up the info on that, but I remember reading him saying that measured Andre at a legite 7'1" in his younger years. Andre did lose drastic height as he aged and put on weight.

Here is a pic of Andre next to Wilt Chamberlain: http://img134.imagevenue.com/img.php?loc=loc73&image=35402_andrewiltarnold4zr_measured.jpg (with Arnold in there as a good measuring stick).

And the untouched version: http://img79.imageshack.us/img79/1474/andrewiltarnold4zr.jpg

I'm sorry, but Andre's listing height of ~6'10" as far as I am concerned is only applicable to perhaps the very last years of his life. TheSentinel 17:18, 20 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Hijodelsanto_and_Bucanero.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. From the Editor

Welcome to the inaugural edition of the WikiProject Professional wrestling newsletter! I hope this will be a good source of news to those people interested in what's happening around our pro wrestlimg community. I plan to release it every Sunday.

This newsletter will just be a way to get the community announcements to people who don't have the time to check the mesageboards, as well that to those just curious about the news. The newsleter will consist of a project news section (to do with what's happening on Wikipedia), and a current events section (relating to news in the "real world"). The newslette will also contain the Collaboration of the Week announcement.

That's all. If you have any feedback or suggestions, please post them at this talk page.

Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. Replaceable fair use File:Rey Bucanero.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Rey Bucanero.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Hammersoft (talk) 16:24, 25 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:Rey Bucanero.jpg

[edit]
⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Rey Bucanero.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hammersoft (talk) 16:24, 25 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
