2004 Summer Olympics medals count by International Organization
Delete this as well. It appears to have only been created to argue the toss over European Union Olympic medals count for 2004. Is someone going to create a table listing medal winners by shoe size or hair colour? Mintguy (T) 01:24, 18 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- Keep it is somehow quite an interesting little page, that would be of interest for the wikipedia. Earl Andrew 07:03, 18 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- Strong keep; see my comments on VfD:EU-Olympics-2004. • Benc • 07:37, 18 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- Keep. More balanced than European Union Olympic medals count for 2004 and interesting trivia. --Kjd 07:45, 18 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- Keep. While we are that that, merge the EU content into this too. Frankchn 11:29, 18 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- Keep, the page is interesting in itself. The details specific to the "EU content" can become a chapter of it, or stay separate, whatever seems more adapted. --Pgreenfinch 11:46, 18 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- Keep. Might as well, it's not hurting anything, and it's interesting trivia. (Although, I suppose, what it really reveals is that the U.N. is the biggest of the groups listed...) --Aranel 14:52, 18 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- Delete. Yes, it addresses the NPOV problems inherent in European Union Olympic medals count for 2004, but it's still original research and, while it isn't misinformation per se, it's still misleading information, pretty much by definition. Also, there really isn't anything significant about these totals. — Gwalla | Talk 19:04, 18 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- As for there being nothing significant about these totals they definitely told me some things I hadn't realized myself -- e.g. that the African continent and the Caribbean has gotten exceptionally little medals. And the CIS count, deeply flawed though it may be, helps as possible comparison to the old Soviet Union. Aris Katsaris 20:05, 18 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- I'm sticking with my delete vote (as expressed on VfD:EU-Olympics-2004), as I don't think the totals are very revealing, due to the noted problems with addition. But since I do agree that grouping medals by continental organizations might show a trend (although nothing of a useful statistical nature), why not come up with a "medal density" map of some sort? It could show those countries that have received lots of medals in a dark color, those with few or none in a light or white color, and one could see the things you noticed about the African/Caribbean (and possibly CIS) medal totals at a quick glance. Since it would just be a pictoral representation of the medal count, I don't see why anyone would have a problem with its existence (although I am hoping it would be replacement for this and the EU page). -- Mike J. 23:57, 18 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- On another note, how is this "original research"? Wikipedia:No original research seems to define what's going on here as a secondary source (assimilation/synthesizing of various other sources), which doesn't, to me, anyway, break that boundary. -- Mike J. 23:57, 18 Aug 2004 (UTC)

- Keep. Would be particularly intersesting (with the caveats on the page) to see the score for the former soviet union. At some stage there will doubtless be extra database funcitonality to make this sort of thing irrelevant, but for now keep. Rich Farmbrough 15:07, 22 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- Keep. I'm indifferent to the EU article, but this one is very useful. Xezbeth 09:46, 23 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Keep. Useful and real data --Pgreenfinch 09:51, 21 Sep 2004 (UTC)- That's your second vote on this page, though I know you did it accidentally. But could someone please tell me why the hell this page is still on vfd after more than a month? Make the decision already -- which according to the votes seems to be clearly a "keep". Aris Katsaris 23:37, 21 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- Yes Aris, my mistake, but discovering the discussion I imagined it was a new vote. I'm wondering like you why the vfd is still on --Pgreenfinch 17:10, 22 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- Keep. Perhaps this page was created to make a mock of the EU medal count page, but it is interesting nevertheless. Therefore, keep it. --Kevloral 03:45, 22 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- Nope, mockery wasn't my goal, even though the page was inspired by the one about the EU medal count. I find such stats genuinely interesting. Aris Katsaris 04:10, 22 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- Unlike the EU page, this one makes sense. Keep.
