About Geography
[edit]The text, as of Sept 13th, 2009, reads "... the volcanic Pacific Coast and Cascade Ranges, where glaciation helped form a U-shaped valley which meets the river valley of the Columbia River ..."
I know and suspect misinformation in that text. The Pacific Coast range is not a volcanic range. It is a 'melange' range, a pile-up of material scraped off of the Juan de Fuca tectonic plate as it subducts under the North American plate. The great valley has certainly been shaped by glaciation, and by the Missoula floods, but it was created by something else. Perhaps by the tectonic subduction. We need a person better informed than me to write a revision to that paragraph. C2equalA2plusB2 (talk) 18:10, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
