Talk:Concordat of 1801
Bishops
[edit]Weren't bishops appointed by the French government on proposal from the Pope? (i.e. the government could refuse candidates presented by the Pope?) David.Monniaux 11:20, 18 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Revolutionary Calendar
[edit]According to French Revolutionary Calendar, the calendar remained in use until 1806. Therefore I have deleted the statement in this article that the Concordat abolished the revolutionary calendar. If you want to change it back, please indicate your source. RussBlau 22:26, Apr 4, 2005 (UTC)
- Both editors who added that erroneous info misunderstood the Concordat (actually the Organic Articles). Only the Sabbath or Sunday was reestablished, not the entire Gregorian calendar. Here is the specific sentence in the Organic Articles (III.41): "No religious festival, with the exception of the Sabbath, can be established without the permission of the Government." — Joe Kress 03:40, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Spelling
[edit]Is this article in English or in American ? On the same line I read “favour” and “favor”: “...tilted firmly in Napoleon's favour. Now, he could win favor with the Catholics ...” BruKerst (talk) 16:49, 14 November 2012 (UTC)
