Add reactions section?
[edit]Was just reading in The New Immigration Federalism by Pratheepan Gulasekaram and S. Kartick Ramakrishnan that anti-Chinese sentiment in California was so strong at the time of the treaty that it "galvanized significant backlash in the state, ranging from rioting and lynching, to legislative efforts to curb what many argued were the deleterious effects of Chinese migration on California's economy and society." I believe including a section on this part of American history is important to keeping our long history with xenophobia visible so we don't repeat it. Thoughts? Perhaps a subsection of the "Impact" section? Footnote reference from this quote cites Laws Harsh as Tigers by Lucy Salyer which I've added to my to-read list but not sure when I'll circle back. -kim. (talk) 09:16, 27 February 2017 (UTC)
