Big Gemini was a late 1960's effort from McDonnell Douglas Corporation to provide a transportation system to send larger crews and cargos into earth orbit. The capsule was extensively enlarged and reengineered to carry from 2 to 6 or 7 (and in one version, as many as 10-12) astronauts and supplies. The launch system would likely have been a version of the Titan III or a Saturn-family rocket.
The program was cancelled and NASA focussed on its Apollo lunar missions. The concept of a large manned capsule was largely ignored by NASA during the period of early 1970's space shuttle design and development.
