Recommended Edit/Correction - Remnant of Wiki Vandalism Found in Pro Sports History Section
[edit]There is a sentence regarding the 19th century baseball team Troy Haymakers that needs correction: "Its last manager was Jimmy Wood, recognized as the first Canadian to play professional baseball." The linked article to Jimmy Wood confirms his stint as Haymakers' manager, but it indicates he was born in Brooklyn and makes no reference to any association with or time spent in Canada. Likewise, all other biographical info online for Mr. Wood confirms he was born in Brooklyn. Because I have very little life, I spent some time spelunking in the version histories of both the Troy, NY and Jimmy Wood Wikipedia entries. The addition of the "first Canadian" reference to the Troy, NY page was from an edit made on 09/18/07 by user 159.247.3.210 (original phrasing was "reckoned the first Canadian in professional baseball"). While the current Jimmy Wood page reflects his Brooklynite status, the version that was public at the time of the 09/18/07 edit above did indeed say Jimmy was the first Canadian baseball player.
That note, however, looks to have been simple vandalism. The Jimmy Wood page as originally written in December 2006 referenced his birth in Brooklyn, but then on 08/10/07, just a month prior to the pro sports history info being added to the Troy, NY page, a user named Rmalatzky deleted Brooklyn from the Jimmy Wood entry and added the Canada reference out of thin air. This was caught and corrected a few months later, in January 2008, but the ill-timed reference has been immortalized on the Troy, NY page ever since. I'm not a registered user or frequenter of this page so I leave the actual editing to those who tend to it. Cheers! 100.1.193.203 (talk) 14:16, 18 August 2024 (UTC)
