England is not a country because it is not sovereign and not recognized as a seperate country.

[edit]

This is as far as I can tell the wikipedia conseus for countryhood. Alexander Shipfield (talk) 12:04, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Alexander Shipfield - have a look at the FAQ at the top of this page. KJP1 (talk) 14:49, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Suggest reading Country to see what the English world considers a country versus a sovereign state. Moxy🍁 18:59, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The concept of "country" is broader than the concept of "sovereign state". Even in a certain aspect, Korea can be considered a country even though it is divided. See country. ALIQ2 (talk) 05:39, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Can we put an "(official)" under "Christianity" in religion section in infobox?

[edit]

Gammawammallama (talk) 19:51, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

England does not have an "official" religion, even though there is a (Christian) Church of England headed by the monarch.Tony Holkham (Talk) 20:00, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Two sources to support the Grand Prix motorcycle racing in the sport section (which are noted as needing sources).

'England has seen the manufacture some of the most technically advanced racing cars, and many of today's racing companies choose England as their base of operations' Source: https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/where-are-f1-teams-based/10348715/

'England also has a rich heritage in Grand Prix motorcycle racing, the premier championship of motorcycle road racing, and produced several world champions' Source: https://www.motorcyclenews.com/advice/travelling-touring/places-to-visit/silverstone-experience-centre/ 2A0A:EF40:EB2:5501:758B:54C1:D175:10FA (talk) 22:44, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

First one done, second source doesn't seem to support most of the sentence (just talks about a local museum). Rusalkii (talk) 00:54, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Under sport, add this source for Grand Prix motorcycle racing. 2A0A:EF40:EB2:5501:8C39:135:C552:C9A2 (talk) 22:23, 15 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Also, under history, there is a link issue: [[Christianisation of Anglo-Saxon England|reintroduced by missionaries[[ needs to be fixed. 2A0A:EF40:EB2:5501:3446:C2C7:CCC7:1F34 (talk) 19:04, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

GA concerns

[edit]

I am concerned that this article no longer meets the good article criteria because of the uncited text throughout the article, including an entire paragraph in the "cuisine" section. Is anyone interested in finding citations for this information, or should this go to WP:GAR? Z1720 (talk) 21:54, 31 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

WP:SOFIXIT? - SchroCat (talk) 20:54, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@SchroCat: It would take me hours, if not days, to go through the sources, determine what uncited text is verified by which source, add the reference information, and reword or remove prose that is not verified anywhere. This time would stop me from working on my own projects, other wikiwork, and real-life commitments. The article does not need to have GA status: if others would like this article to keep it, they are welcome to fix the article and I will check it. Z1720 (talk) 23:26, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

There is uncited text throughout the article. Z1720 (talk) 20:47, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Work could also be done on GACR3b, as the article has gained almost 3,000 words over time since its promotion. CMD (talk) 02:05, 10 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

GINI and HDI

[edit]

Gini needs to be added to the infobox, as per Wales and Scotland's infoboxes. Between 2016 and 2019, it was 35 for England.[1] HDI should also be added. TheHandofFear (talk) 21:47, 28 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

We don't have HDI figures for England I'm afraid — only for Scotland, Wales and NI. No one has published any for England. Dgp4004 (talk) 09:05, 30 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Please could you add Gini? TheHandofFear (talk) 18:33, 30 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
