Hi Benji, I just wanted to thank you for creating the Grand Trunk Railroad article. I think all of the people who have been working on Canadian history articles have been meaning to write that, but none of us ever got around to it. So it's nice to see that someone finally wrote it! :) Adam Bishop 20:07, 26 Jan 2004 (UTC)
Hey-now, BF. I especially enjoyed seeing your "nick" since i'm in the midst of reading Neal Stephenson's Quicksilver, which uses a lot of unfamiliar spelling and includes a character who is probably another BF.
Thanks for the additional Baden-Powells. In case you haven't picked up on the fact, you can use Show preview to see your draft as it will appear on the page, without adding an entry to the Page history each time.
You almost certainly have noted how many within-the-site links we set up: so much so that any link other than an external one is almost always just called a link without qualification. In fact, you summarized several of your edits within the List of people by name structure referring to internal links. That structure has many within-the-tree links, and many of the pages of it have multiple within-the-page links; i stared at your contribution for a while, trying to see where you had created within-the-page links! That was eventually good for a laugh at my own expense -- perhaps the best kind, eh?, especially since i am so uncommonly generous in forgiving myself for laughing at me.
I could see, from the multiple edits that you did on that page, that you've been quickly picking up how this thing works, pretty much in the same way that i think most of of us have. I hope your interest holds up, and look forward to having you as a colleague.
Oh, here's a trick i just finally learned, after puzzling for months over how User:Jiang, User:Angela, and others were customizing their sigs with an extra link, without having to type the timestamp portion by hand. Can you deduce the string i typed into the

pane on my Preferences page? Don't be embarrassed to ask, if the puzzle eventually loses its charm.
Thanks, and keep up the good work. [smile] --Jerzy(t) 08:12, 2004 Mar 2 (UTC)
You seem to have created a number of articles based on copyrighted material, such as Grand Trunk Railroad, Niagara Parks Commission, and Laurier House. Please do not do this. These articles now all have to be deleted. If you have submited any other articles based on material copied from websites please list them on Wikipedia:Possible copyright infringements. - SimonP 04:07, Mar 13, 2004 (UTC)
Thanks for the article on Montmorency Falls! Brian Rock 04:57, Mar 21, 2004 (UTC)
Nice work on Battle of Kapyong. You have a way with words. --Uncle Ed 13:27, 2 Apr 2004 (UTC)
Hi, I have listed Bora Laskin on Bora Laskin as you have said the text is only to be used non-commercially. This is not compatible with the terms of the GFDL. Angela. 22:55, Apr 6, 2004 (UTC)
The Bora Laskin information on the Supreme Court of Canada website may be reproduced without premission for public non-commercial purposes. My understanding is that the Wikipedia is both public and non-commercial. If I am wrong about this please let me know. Basically the SCC does not require anyone to obtain permission to use the material for public non-commercial purposes.Benji Franklyn 23:39, 6 Apr 2004 (UTC)
- No, text inserted in Wikipedia needs to be suitable for commercial use. Under the terms of the GFDL, anyone can re-use articles here, commercially if they want to. It is quite feasible that someone could sell the Bora Laskin if they wanted to, so this would violate the terms of use of the SCC. Angela. 08:19, Apr 7, 2004 (UTC)
Article Licensing
[edit]Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 1000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:
- Multi-Licensing FAQ - Lots of questions answered
- Multi-Licensing Guide
- Free the Rambot Articles Project
To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:
- Option 1
- I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
- DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
OR
- Option 2
- I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
- DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)
Unverified images
[edit]Hi! Thanks for uploading the following images:
I notice they currently don't have image copyright tags. Could you add some to let us know their copyright status? (You can use gfdl if you release them under the GNU Free Documentation License, fairuse if you claim fair use, etc.) If you don't know what any of this means, just let me know at my talk page where you got the images and I'll tag them for you. Thanks so much. Peter O. (Talk, automation script) 21:58, Dec 10, 2004 (UTC)
P.S. You can help tag other images at User:Yann/Untagged_Images. Thanks again.

Image Tagging for Image:Athabaskan_G_07.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Athabaskan_G_07.jpg. The image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to indicate why we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use GFDL to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the image qualifies under Wikipedia's fair use guidelines, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use. If you want the image to be deleted, tag it as db-unksource.
If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion.

Image copyright problem with Image:Athabaskan_R79.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Athabaskan_R79.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Unspecified source for Image:International Joint Commission.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:International Joint Commission.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the GFDL-self tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use. Replaceable fair use Image:Athabaskan DDH 282.jpg
[edit]I absouloutley love the bit on lethbridge viaduct can I have ur number my name is dillon thoms
Thanks for uploading Image:Athabaskan DDH 282.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add

, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — Carl (CBM · talk) 19:15, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

The article CSTC HMCS Quebec has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- non-notable per WP:NOTABLE and WP:MILMOS/N
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the dated prod
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing dated prod
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Anotherclown (talk) 07:43, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
