Power Rangers

Great job on enhancing the articles for T.J., Tommy, and Jason.

I think you should do the same for the Zack, Adam, Kimberly, Katherine, Trini, Ashley, Carlos, Andros, Jen, Tori, Blake, Conner, Ethan, Kira, and Trent articles.

The problem with enhancing the articles is that firstly, I've only seen parts of the very beginning of PR, along with LR-NS, and half of Dino Thunder, and even articles on some of the Rangers would be lacking, as they weren't very heavily developed (eg. Pokemon Wikibooks

I understand you are the founder of the pokémon book at wikibooks and I was wondering what you thought of this idea. (I believe it has been mentioned before) Why not move the entire pokedex (along with smaller pokémon articles like missingno and pokemon cities) currently on wikipedia to Wikibooks in a new comprhensive pokemon book? In my opinion this would solve several problems.

• The (attempted) deletion of pokémon articles (which could eventually grow) would stop.
  • Such people wouldn't see the pages on random page or recent changes and would hopefully cool down.
• Pokemon articles will be concentrated into a an easily navigable book
• The level of detail could be much higher (what you seem to be doing with move lists and attack levels for every pokemon)

In summary I'm sugesting the move of the Pokémon Wikiproject to wikibooks.

I'd be happy to work on such a project, time permitting.

The problem with such an idea is that a Pokédex is that, in the world of Pokémon, the Pokédex is an encyclopedia of Pokémon knowledge. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and thus the Wikipedia Pokédex (ie. Wikipedia:WikiProject Pokédex) is an encyclopedia to the fictional world of Pokémon. If you argue that it shouldn't be on the pedia, then consider the articles that deal with fictional universes such as Star Trek and Star Wars, which should be precedent for the Wikipedia Pokédex to exist. The problem is that there is a clear distinction between the Pokédex as seen in the games, and the Pokédex as seen from the mangas or anime. b:Wikibooks Pokédex does the former: it provides game data, as b:Pokémon attempts to be a Pokémon game strategy guide. The latter is filled by articles in Wikipedia.

However, there are some information on Pokémon that is irrelevant to the game (but plays a significant role in mangas or anime), and Wikipedia, as an encyclopedia and not a game strategy guide, is the better place to put the information. For example, information about how Team Rocket's Wobbuffet keeps summoning itself from its Pokéball is of no value to the Wikibooks Pokédex.

The reason for the separation in the first place was that detailed information relevant to the games was not appropriate for Wikipedia, but with the (then-new) Game Guide section at Wikibooks, it was a better fit there. There is currently a proposal for whether something goes in the pedia or the books, and it sums up to "if it's game data, it's clearly in the books, and if it's part of manga or anime continuity, then it's part of the pedia".

Marik vs. Malik

I wonder if Kazuki Takahashi has actually romanized his name as "malik", or if it is just a popular romanization for his name. Even the French manga uses "Marik" at least from what I can tell from Kana's website.

This link (http://users.skynet.be/petc/manga-zone/mangas-y-yugioh.htm) shows that the French manga uses "Ishizu" too... apparently "Isis" may also be just a popular rendering of her name. I think it's a product of weird romanization. If you do it as-is, then yes, "Marik" and "Ishizu" would be correct. I'd refer to them as "Marik" and "Ishizu" personally (if it was "Isis", would the first kana be an a and not an i?). Here's what I had thought on doing today, I was initionally planning on making a category for both Pokemon and Digimon, and adding differing descriptions between the two shows later, but after seeing many complaints, I decided to spin-off to a new title in a new article called Differences Between Pokémon and Digimon. NHL timeline

I tried some things to avoid label conflicts. I wonder if there's a way to change the link color, because blue just isn't going to work. Try something like shift:pos(-50, 0) to move 50 pixels left. Also to note:

What I have in mind is that the bar representing the team would have one of the team's colors (eg. the yellow in the Boston Bruins bar is supposed to be the yellow that the Bruins use). Between the two gray bars, of course, is the Original Six era.

I also need to add a few footnotes to this (eg. season cancelled by lockout), so I still have to install some textdata.

Yeah. The problem with the colors right now is that you can't change the link color, so some things (Maple Leafs) are completely unreadable. I asked about that on m:Help talk:EasyTimeline syntax to see if that could be changed. Bulbapedia

I noticed you've done a lot of work on Pokemon related articles here and at Wikibooks, so I was wondering if you have heard of Bulbapedia. It's a Pokemon enclyclopedia using the same software as Wikipedia. It's only been open for a few months but has been growing rapidly. Timeline

KelvSYC, I added anchor/align/shift attributes. Unfortunately texts in narrow bars always need a small vertical shift. This can't be changed as it would break existing charts (and the amount depends on font size, which is unpredictable once unicode support has been added).

With reluctance I decided to add sometime in the future linkcolor attribute. Reluctance, because all charts now have blue colored links which gives a certain amount of uniformity and makes clickable links easy to recognize. Link colors in Wp articles are all uniform too (unless one adds a user specific stylesheet). I plan to get back to EasyTimeline maintenance somemetime this summer. Very busy with other projects right now. Please copy the colors block, and add #> <# for block comment around the original block and use lighter varieties in the meantime. The incorrect names for Anzu Mazaki

Getting better coordination between b:Pokémon and WP:PAC

I noticed on Wikipedia:WikiProject Pokédex that you were coordinating between that project at b:Pokémon.
Wikipedia:Pokémon Adoption Center is de facto the inheritor of WP:Pokedex, but it's very, very inclusionist (no surprise there, as WP:PAC came from an effort to keep the Pokémon stubs off of VfD). Nothing necessarily wrong with inclusionism, but I was hoping to get your perspective on where the line betweeen Wikipedia-appropriate information and Wikibooks-appropriate information, specifically in this topic.

Whoo... Haven't worked on b:Pokémon for a long time (since admining in Wikibooks and working on b:MegaMan Battle Network is taking my time...), but my general thoughts is that, and as I have reiterated, that video game stats are Wikibooks only, and that the Wikipedia pages should constrain themselves to basic facts and facts about them revealed in the anime, mangas, or Live (eg. in the mangas, most Pokémon are capable of human speech, but Pikachu consistently speaks with its own syllables). To summarize, "game guide"-like material should go in Wikibooks and not here - it was the reason why the book was founded in the first place.

BTW, I don't really approve of pronounciation boxes as firstly, it's not in IPA, and second, many different canonical pronunciations exist for the same Pokémon (eg. The a in Pikachu is either /a/ or /@/ depending on the speaker, while in Larvitar, the i is pronounced with a schwa in Pokémon 4Ever and with a dipthong in Master Quest. Chimecho has two unrelated pronunciations altogether - one, /tSaImEkou/, from the fact that the word is a portmanteau of "chime" and "echo", and the other, /tSimikou/, was used in various English AG promos). kelvSYC 05:53:30, 2005-08-12 (UTC)

Use of mathematical notation in articles

Howdy, regarding your edits to generalized selection, projection (relational algebra), rename, and selection (relational algebra), math notation is a user preference. Users can choose wether they want to display formulae by using TeX or by displaying the unicode characters. If you write it in unicode, the users are unable to decide how is the formulae displayed. Not everyone knows how to write unicode special characters, and not everyone is capable of doing so. However, everyone is capable of writing in TeX, since it's a language independent of special characters.

You should also have in mind that older versions of browsers do not support the full spectrum of the unicode character set and therefore when visiting articles written with unicode special characters (such as phi or rho) they see a character error display.

Basically, the use of mathematical notation is encouraged when the formula uses special characters such as phi, rho, set inclusion, greater than, etc etc. For example, Firefox displays the correct unicode character for "greater than" but Microsoft Internet Explorer does not (it displays a similar character with an inclination on the equality symbol).

If you want to modify the formulae when it just displays universal letters (a-z) then feel free to do so, but please leave the mathematical notation for special characters. I have reverted each one of the articles mentioned beforehand for this same reason. If you wish to edit the formulae that defines sets of the form a^1, a^2, ..., a^n that's fine, but please do not write formulae with symbols such as phi and rho in unicode.

The choice of rendering is made to maintain consistency with how articles on mathematics in Wikipedia are displayed. Furthermore, decisions have been made in Wikipedia about how special characters (ie. non-ASCII) have been rendered, and a large amount has been to break "renderability" in this manner (eg. usage of IPA, Chinese characters, etc.). Wikipedia has in the past held the "screw the older browsers" position in this manner, and I am sure the same will eventually apply here. kelvSYC 04:22, 31 October 2005 (UTC)

Why did you remove the Super 14 Trophy from the Stanley Cup?

It is actually relevant. It mentions the Stanley Cup: Like the Stanley Cup in the National Hockey League and the Super 12 trophy, the trophy is a rotating trophy, held only during the offseason and returned to the competition organisers in time for it to be awarded to the next season's champions. This is dissimilar to the Vince Lombardi Trophy, which is permanently awarded to each winner of the Super Bowl, which in turn means that a new trophy is created every season. This is as the two trophies are only superfically related. One is a 100-year old trophy, the other is new. One is for rugby, the other for hockey. Other than the fact that the two trophies are given out the same way each year, I don't see any similarities. Thus, the two are only superfically related at best. Curling tables

Wikipedia Conventions? What are you talking about? If there is any convention for curling tables, it's the one that is on the majority of the curling pages. I only made a different one for the Olympics because the page was so long, and 10 does not divide by 3, so I couldn't use a similar format. Anyways, the colours are not irrelevant, as they represent the colours used for each team, except lighter so that text can be placed over it. The difference between the Sens table you showed me and the one on the Sens page, is that the one on the Sens page looks a lot nice. The colour adds a lot, and the reason we dont put it in the standings for the NHL is because it would get too distracting, as it would fill up all the boxes. This is not the case in the table I made for the Scotts. My table is a lot nicer, and easier to read. All the information about the team is in the same box. It was renamed Wikipedia:WikiProject Ice Hockey/Article Improvement, and it includes two section. The first section is called articles in dire need of improvement. It list articles, usually important, that are in very poor shape. The second section is called requested help. Users list an article they request help improving a certain article, which will facilitate collaboration, which is the aim of any WikiProject. There is one article currently listed there, Henrik Lundqvist, here. The goal is to at least get it to Good article status. Diacritics By Maxim In the past few weeks, there has been quite heated discussion about the use of diacritics in article name. The current guideline is using diacritics in the pages of articles of all player names which require them, but redirects are exempt. Task forces By Maxim There have been two new task forces started within the WikiProject to coordinate major topics. Sweden Ice Hockey task force This task force was initiated by Krm500. Its current goal is to improve Henrik Lundqvist to Good or Featured article status. It covers all Swedish clubs, leagues and competitions and associated articles, players and coaches that are Swedish, or have played/coached for a Swedish club, and arenas in Sweden. They plan to eventually operate as a sort of a sub-project, which will have its own articles for creation, ranking importance and quality of articles, and co-ordinate article improvement. Its current members are Krm500, Bamsefar75, and CLAES. New Jersey Devils task force This task force was initiated by Bsroiaadn. Its goal is to improve New Jersey Devils to Featured Topic status. Although it currently meets the required article count, the task force wishes to improve it further. Its area of coverage is very similar to the Sweden Ice Hockey task force. Its members are Bsroiaadn, JHMM13, FutureNJGov, Sportskido8, Michael Greiner, JRWalko, and Soxrock. Requested Images By Maxim After discussion on the WikiProject talk page, Serte created a page for Requested Images. The page encourages users to license images for use on articles. The page also has section to request images for players, arenas, game situations, miscellaneous, and team and league logos. The page has been quite popular; since it was created on July 21, there have been six completed requests. There are four currently outstanding requests: Patrik Eliáš — Photo of player, requested by Bsroiaadn Scott Stevens — Photo of player, requested by Bsroiaadn Daniel Alfredsson — Photo of player, requested by Maxim Hart Trophy — Photo of the original Hart Trophy (retired in 1960), requested by Scorpion0422 Article assessement completed By Maxim On July 12, Kaiser matias announced that he had completed assessing all the articles with a {{ice hockey}} tag, sorting them into Category:Unassessed Ice Hockey articles. Kaiser matias has ranked about 9000 articles in that category, and most were stubs, and "have no information at all", according to him. Everybody is encouraged to expand the stubs into real articles. Comparison of Axis & Allies Games

Good job starting an article to compare Axis and Allies ideas.
I would suggest that the bottom related links needs a clean up.
Currently is says: "Miniatures. Land. War at sea."
I think the basic: "Miniatures: Land. Sea. Air." would work better.
Just now discovered how to edit the template, but double check it any way.

ArbCom 2018 election voter message

Hello, KelvSYC. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
