More remaining artifacts well worth mentioning
[edit]The ship's wheel, as I recall, and other bridge-emplaced items, are on public display at the (wonderful) National Naval Aviation Museum at Pensacola. I've asked them to provide a citable source for their holdings. DulcetTone (talk) 23:28, 1 September 2021 (UTC)
Scrapping
[edit]Ya know, BilCat, had I come across this edit before you, I think I might have just let it stand, (along with a "cite needed" tag, of course). Even now, if I have some free time, I think I might just hunt around a bit and see if there are any sources about to support the statement in that edit. It's not necessarily wrong. - Of course it's wrong, for a neutral encyclopedia anyway, as it's an opinion.
"in a disgrace that the Navy will never live down"
would be appropriate in an op-ed, a blog, a fan site, or even on the Naval History and Heritage Command website, but it's not appropriate in Wikipedia's voice. BilCat (talk) 04:55, 21 November 2021 (UTC)- Well, of course it needn't be worded in that exact way. But if there was something to reflect the disappointment that the old gal couldn't be saved, then I, and I'm sure others, would like to see that added. (JHMO) - wolf 05:00, 21 November 2021 (UTC)
- That's completely different. As written, though, it could not remain, even with a {{cn}} tag. BilCat (talk) 05:06, 21 November 2021 (UTC)
- Someone should find a quote from some "significant" person that conveys the same sentiment. 2601:7C0:C500:3540:F8E2:FB6:DF4B:FE2A (talk) 02:27, 13 May 2022 (UTC)

Runway Number
[edit]I notice that her flight deck has a runway number of "9." Was there a technical reason for that? Or was it symbolic "Always face westward" kind of thing? Fephisto (talk) 17:45, 14 November 2022 (UTC)
- It's a "6", as in " CV-6". BilCat (talk) 18:03, 14 November 2022 (UTC)
- My god do I feel dumb. Fephisto (talk) 22:01, 14 November 2022 (UTC)
