Reggie's ethnicity?
[edit]Does anyone know Reggie's ethnicity? He looks like he could be of African or possibly Indian descent. Just curious. --M.Neko 08:31, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit]I hereby request a "Names Taken" and "Asses Kicked" section to be added. Thank you.
Shouldn't someone update this, as to include mario kart ds online event of dec.20 2005? and maybe also add a picture? What do you think? ~spotco
His height is wrong, confirmed by Fils-Amié himself on twitter. [1] RPM22 (talk) 17:42, 29 February 2020 (UTC)
- @RPM22: His height is not stated anywhere on the article. The tweet is referring to Google's result function, which does not cross-reference with Wikipedia in this instance. – Rhain ☔ 13:17, 2 March 2020 (UTC)

Irrelevant paragraph
[edit]The fourth paragraph (the one composed entirely of a quote from Iwata) seems to be completely pointless. Is there some reason to keep it there? - Jaytan 11:15, 28 May 2006 (UTC)
Ryan Aime Trivia
[edit]"Ryan Aime was a prolific supporter of the civil rights movement in America and is rumoured to be related to Eddie Murphy"
Does this really belong in the opening sentence? Seems more appropriate for a trivia section. Xnolanx 20:26, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
Info removal
[edit]IT seems like lots of stuff has been removed. I think there should really be lots added. Has things like the Quote section been taken off? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Drewboy64 (talk • contribs)
- The removals I've seen look reasonable, though perhaps some of the information should have been simply moved around in the article instead of taken out. The quotations section is still there although there's only a few since we have the wikiquote link. Xnolanx 16:49, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
New info on Reggie?
[edit]It seems a bit ridiculous we can't even find Reggie's birthday. The article really needs a lot more background information such as where he was born and to who and how he began his career.Throw 00:35, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

Reggie's last name
[edit]Could somebody explain to me how his last name is pronounced? I've heard countless pronounciations but never heard a confirmed one. --TonicBH 23:51, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
- His name is pronounced the way it's displayed on this article "FEEZ-oh-MAY". Here's an interview done with Fils-Aime where the interview pronounces it "FEEZ-oh-MAY" to his face, so if it's pronounced wrong he probably would have corrected him: http://youtube.com/watch?v=20UzMTxGn2U Throw 16:11, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
- According to Seattle Times it's "Fees-uh-mey".
- I editted the article in accordance. JackSparrow Ninja 18:55, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
- I went back to the previous version. The IPA construction is the correct way of displaying such information. However, it could be possible to add this "familiar" pronunciation in the article after the correct IPA construction, for those readers who can't understand it. -- ReyBrujo 02:48, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
- There's a link to the IPA pronunciation page now, for anyone who might need it. 129.8.206.111 09:52, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

Does Fils-Aime have that apostrophe thing on top of his name? Can someone confirm it? If so, shouldn't this page be moved to the appropriate title? I tried checking on some sites, but all of them generally refer to him as the plain Fils-Aime. I don't know how we'd find out unless we somehow got a copy of his birth certificate or something... Hbdragon88 03:41, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
Do you mean an acute accent? Yes, there's an acute accent on the last "e." In French it is spelled "Fils-Aimé" Fågelina 19:13, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
...And "fils aimé" means "loved son" in french... useless trivia but still :)
--Dez26 22:02, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
The real French pronunciation would be closer to fee-zhah-maa, or, as he says it, fee-suh-may.
--UnicornTapestry (talk) 14:51, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
If there is an acute accent on the E, then why is it not present in this article? I for one wouldn't want for the acute accent in my name to be omitted in Wikipedia, if I was deserving of an article of course. In French, accents are essential, and if his name is indeed French in nature, I believe the accent should be included. --142.213.254.2 (talk) 13:02, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
Oh and, by the way, I do believe the IPA spelling is a bit wrong, the LS part in "Fils" has an S sound in French, not a Z sound. Unless Haiti French has it pronounced that way, which I doubt... Gotta say I haven't met many Haitians in my life, though. --142.213.254.2 (talk) 13:09, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
- I've corrected the IPA transcription in the article to [ˈfiːsɛmeɪ] and added the respelling key FEESS-em-ay. This is based on the link Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime Tells Us How To Say His Name which was already cited in the article, but for some reason the previous IPA transcription was not consistent with the pronunciation Fils-Aime gives us in the link. Note that Fils-Aime clearly uses a front vowel in the middle which I write as an unreduced [ɛ], but reducing it to a schwa and pronouncing [ˈfiːsəmeɪ] would probably also be acceptable as [ɛ] in unstressed syllables is often reduced. By the way, the French pronunciation of Fils-Aimé is [fisɛme] in more careful pronunciation or [fiseme] more casually, with an unvoiced [s], not [z]. --Iceager (talk) 12:21, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

Unfortuantely, that image is a free one, and we'd have to find another free image that would be better. Free image trumps fair use every time. Hbdragon88 07:25, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
Can someone update that picture? Reggie looks, well, pretty terrible in it. This pic <http://www.joystiq.com/media/2006/01/Reginald_Fils-Aimejoy.jpg> seems to be a good one, especialyl sicne it reflects him working for Nintendo. I can't figure out how to host the image on Wikipedia and not steal the bandwidth of that other site.
- You don't, you have to upload it to these servers. However, you must verify the copyright status of the image. Hbdragon88 04:50, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

Again, we desperatly need a better picture of the poor chap. SOMEONE must have an image we can use: has anyone tried asking nintendo if he has a useable biography picture? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 81.137.159.61 (talk • contribs).
- We are not here to make people look nice in articles, we are to give information that is verifiable and free. This image is free, and Nintendo always copyrights their content, so any image they can supply is very likely to be unusable by us. -- ReyBrujo 13:16, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
- Agree, but that picture makes him look less respectalbe IMO, it would be nice to show something that look respectful and professional, since he is the president of Nintendo. IMO, I rather have no picture than use that one. It is unfortunately that we have to follow the copyright term. Nauto 04:19, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

- Almost a year later, we're still using the same picture... I agree with the IP above, it's pretty terrible and we should replace it. Unfortunately, it seems to be the only free image of him we have, so it's that or nothing; but I think the picture is so bad that nothing might be preferable. Fair use rationale for Image:Reginald Fils-Aime Reggielutionpic CheReggie.jpg
[edit]Image:Reginald Fils-Aime Reggielutionpic CheReggie.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

The article's title (Fils-Aime vs. Fils-Aimé)
[edit]So, to bring up a question that has already been asked four years ago, but apparently never been addressed: What's with the discrepancy between the article's title and its content? Shouldn't the page be moved to "Reggie Fils-Aimé"? -- Socob (talk) 15:35, 19 March 2010 (UTC)
- It was moved to "Reggie Fils-Aimé", but was moved back recently. The reasoning was that there is "no source that he uses an accent, and all written sources don't use one". just64helpin (talk) 16:30, 19 March 2010 (UTC)
- Well, there's this source, for example, which uses the accent (even though it uses "Fils-Aime" once, too). Regardless, can it really be that hard to figure out what the guy is actually called? I mean, I wouldn't know how to go about finding a some proof, but surely, there must be a way. -- 20:20, 22 March 2010

Please change: Fils-Aime was previously married and divorced. Fils-Aime is the father of three children. He has a long-term girlfriend, Stacey Sanner, whom he met at his previous career at VH1 <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VH1> .[3] <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reggie_Fils_Aime#cite_note-Seattle_Times-2> To: Fils-Aime is married to Stacey Sanner, whom he met while he was at VH1 <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VH1>. In the Nintendo section of the Career portion of the article, the sentence "Fils-Aimé's because a recognized public face for Nintendo at the 2004 E3." should read "Fils-Aimé became a recognized public face for Nintendo at E3 in 2004." Include "Reggie" in lead
[edit]@Rhain—My edit was reverted adding the phrase "also known as simply 'Reggie'" to the lead. I believe this information is worthy including, as the mononym "Reggie" is commonly used in RSes to refer to him. On top of the sources included in the article, some others that use this mononym without first disambiguating with his surname include [3], [4], and [5] (there are more from Nintendo Life but you get the picture), [6], [7], and [8]. I believe that this is enough to justify inclusion in the lead, but I'm putting this here to preventively avoid a WP:3RR violation, as I've counter-reverted the revert. DecafPotato (talk) 02:52, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
- @DecafPotato: I acknowledge that his first name is a common shorthand, but I don't think it's worth a mention (certainly not in the lead). Personally I don't see how it's any different from articles using "Kojima" or "Molyneux" in their headlines—Reggie is a certainly a rare case where his first name is more popular, but I'm not sure it's especially notable. And I don't think those sources convince me—Nintendo Life is a specialised source about Nintendo, IGN is just a speech transcript, NWR is a podcast, and Engadget is a video, so not the best evidence of widespread use. (And, in any case, these sources should have been added to the article, as your edit remains unsourced.) – Rhain ☔ (he/him) 03:16, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
- Nintendo Life being a Nintendo-centric source shouldn't change things, it's just an easier example to find and use because they (obviously) cover Reggie more often. And NWR and Engadget being a podcast and video shouldn't change things—those source types should all be equal. The full list of sources can be found by plugging in
Reggie Nintendo -Fils-Aime -Fils-Aimé -Fils-Amie -Fils-Aimes
(the latter two are possible typos) into the WPVG reliable sources engine if you wish to see all the sources. - As for comparisons with things like "Kojima", I think it's because it's his first name, which breaks the norm. If someone goes by just their first name, it also tends to be in the lead (see: Adele, Zendaya). DecafPotato (talk) 04:04, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
- "If someone goes by just their first name"—I think that's my problem: Reggie doesn't just use his first name. In practically every setting (prime example), he goes by "Reggie Fils-Aimé". People like Adele and Zendaya are incomparable because their mononyms are their stage names; "Reggie" is not. – Rhain ☔ (he/him) 04:36, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
- I tend to agree with Rhain here. Its not a nickname or pseudonym, and simply a fan term. It deserves mention along with the Reggienator label (in the body), but doesn't need lede position. Masem (t) 04:40, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
