Arena Name
[edit]Whoever changed the arena name and said "wikipedia is not a crystal ball" should pay attention to the news and not edit stuff if they don't know what they are talking about. The new arena is officially named the "Steelback Centre" and they have a 10 year, 1.5 million dollar deal in place.
- The deal will not be official until the city council approves it Monday night at council. [1] Once they ratify it the name can be changed. Wikipedia is not a crystal ball is official Wiki policy. Respect it. BoojiBoy 20:05, 28 May 2006 (UTC)
BoojiBoy is correct annoymous...while there is no doubt whatsoever that the arena will be named The Steelback Centre it is not actually official yet. --Jay8 23:39, 28 May 2006 (UTC)
NHL Alumni
[edit]What criteria is being used for addition to the NHL alumni category? There are several former Hounds who have played in the NHL not included on the list. Aaron Gavey, Ryan Jardine, Troy Mallette, Derek King, Jeff Beukeboom, Steve Graves, Steve Smith, Steve Gatzos, Gord Dineen, Doug Shedden, Dan Lucas, Ted Nolan, Charlie Simmer, Jack Valiquette, etc are not included on the list. Some of these guys had great careers while others played only a few games so I didn't know if you were using a minimum number of games or something to list players in that category? Even so, some of the guys mentioned have played 400+ games in the NHL. There could be a lot more players, those are just the ones that jumped out at me while scanning the following page - Hounds NHL draft picks. --Jay8 15:59, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
- If you've played one game in the NHL you qualify. Feel free to expand the list. BoojiBoy 18:43, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
Article Title
[edit]Shouldn't this be listed under "Soo Greyhounds" which is the official team name rather than the "Sault Ste Marie Greyhounds" which is not? --Jay8 23:23, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
- Um, Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds is the official name. BoojiBoy 03:58, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
- "Soo Greyhounds" is not the official name of the team. It is an adopted nickname. Flibirigit 04:10, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
Nobody calls them the "Sault Ste Marie" Greyhounds. The official site is "soogreyhounds.com" not "saultstemariegreyhounds.com". Their logo also says "Soo Greyhounds". Anybody searching for Hounds information would be looking for the "Soo Greyhounds" which is what everybody knows them as. There is not a single logo that contains "Sault Ste Marie". I know what your saying, the OHL guides and whatnot refer to them with the SSM, but the team never uses it in any advertising, signs, logo's, media releases, etc. On the way into SSM, there is also a sign that says "Home of the Soo Greyhounds". Just a suggestion, thats all. --Jay8 04:16, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, that's all true, but the official team name is the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. BoojiBoy 04:27, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
- Just try typing in Soo Greyhounds in the search field. See where it gets you. Search and experiment more on wikipedia. Flibirigit 08:30, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
I'm not a 10 year old newbie on here so don't talk to me like I am. I was simply referring to the fact that nowhere is the name "Soo Greyhounds" mentioned which is what everyone calls them. --Jay8 14:59, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
- So add it to the flippin' article. I was just responding to your claim that "'Soo Greyhounds' which is the official team name", which is incorrect. BoojiBoy 01:38, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
I was talking to Flibirigit, not you BoojiBoy :) --Jay8 02:17, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
I have to agree with Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds Jay8. "Soo" is a handy nickname that has become common and fits on the jersey a lot easier than Sault Ste. Marie. However, if you look up the team on the Ontario Hockey League website, you'll find they are listed there as the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds and, if fact, if you look anywhere outside the Soo, you find the team refered to as the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. --James Warner-Smith 00:04, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
S.S.Marie Grehounds & Sudbury Wolves
[edit]I've been working a lot lately... but I've been busy doing research... I've found the WLT records for the Wolves and the Soo Greyhounds from the NOJHL before they expanded... I also found out that when the OHL expanded with Sudbury and the Soo, it forced the NOJHL to fold for around 10 years. If you are interested in having these records... just contact me. - Yes, I would like to incorporate as much information as possible. I have also picked up the following book. "100 Year of Dropping the Ruck, A History of the OHA" by Ian Young. ISBN # 0-7710-9093-5 Flibirigit 22:19, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

Greyhounds, Thunderbirds and the EPHL
[edit]I spent some time today going through copies of the Sault Star from 1959 to 1962 to verify what I believed to be the case about the Sault Ste. Marie team that played in the Eastern Professional Hockey League. In spite of numerous references all over the internet about the Soo Greyhounds of the EPHL, this team never carried the Greyhounds name. The Sault team in the EPHL was the Sault Thunderbirds. I have created a separate page for that team and have moved any information related to that team to that site.

Fair use rationale for Image:SMG.jpg
[edit]Image:SMG.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
