Was this a "fight"?

[edit]

http://www.dailybruin.com/news/printable.asp?id=31776&date=2/2/2005

"Bunchy Carter and John Huggins, leaders in the Black Panther Party and UCLA students, were killed "while the two were in an altercation involving an US member, Harold Jones-Tawala," Brown wrote. "The shoot-out had an immediate crippling effect on the Black Congress."

The alleged shooter was never found, but brothers George Ali-Stiner and Larry Watani-Stiner were convicted for conspiracy to commit murder and second-degree murder. The brothers escaped from prison, but in 1994 Watani-Stiner turned himself in."

Would it be more clear if it was "Bunchy Carter and John Huggins, leaders in the Black Panther Party and UCLA students, were killed in a shootout with Harold Jones-Tawala, a member of rival group United Slaves"

Just trying to get more detail here...otherwise it hardly seems like a moment to memorialize for Jan 17th...initial phrasing makes it seem like any other gang fight, and doesn't detail who got killed.--JereKrischel 10:51, 26 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Green Day

[edit]

A Green Day cd release is hardly a historical event, I am removing it from the page. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 72.138.175.46 (talkcontribs) 00:10, January 18, 2006 (UTC)

2008 plane crash

[edit]

Hello, I was just wondering why the edit to 2008 about the recent plane crash at heathrow was non notable as it is in the current events page, and other minor incidents have also been included in other years. Just a thought Thatperson (talk) 18:56, 17 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

edit: sorry I meant the January 17 page —Preceding unsigned comment added by Thatperson (talkcontribs) 18:57, 17 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It is important to note that just because something is newsworthy does not indicate long term global notability. We've been having discussions on the project talk page about what makes events globally notable enough for inclusion in Wikicalendar articles. Plane crashes seem to happen with enough frequency that they are not shocking or life changing for the most part. This particular event did not result in any deaths and it will be forgotten very soon. You are welcome to participate in the ongoing discussions here. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 19:04, 17 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If the plane crash becomes notable enough to merits its own article, then it will be listed here. Kingturtle (talk) 19:23, 17 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Having its own article is not sufficient to warrant inclusion as a long-term, globally notable event. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 18:51, 18 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies for bad edit, should of checked here first! TheProf07 (talk) 18:52, 18 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Spokane Bombing Attempt

[edit]

Because I am unsure whether 2011 Spokane bombing attempt is notable enough according to Wikipedia:Days of the year criteria to be noted on the article page, I was wondering what others think. Akihironihongo (talk) 05:33, 16 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Definitely not notable in this context. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 00:46, 17 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
However, why is a typcial American school shooting more notable than other historical events? --Norden1990 (talk) 15:59, 17 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Typical American school shootings are not notable enough for inclusion. WP:DOY says that explicitly. If one is listed somewhere it is because no one has noticed it. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 21:28, 17 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Antarctic Circle

[edit]

Is there a reason that James Cook is listed as the first European to sail into the Antarctic Circle? Do we know of any non-Europeans who got there? If not, shouldn't we say the first person known to have sailed into the Antarctic Circle? Well, him and his crew, I guess. GoldenRing (talk) 17:27, 21 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

St Anthony

[edit]

According to the Wiki article, all Christian churches (that keep Saints' days) venerate St Anthony on this day, so the listing of RC and Byzantine makes it wrongly look as if only those churches do so. Unless I have this wrong, I will delete the mention of those specific churches (leaving it blank, as is the practice for all the other saints listed who are generally celebrated) --Richardson mcphillips (talk) 15:41, 15 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I realize I was slightly hasty. The way the St Anthony article side-box is laid out, I assumed 22 Tobi is the same as 17 January, but it isn't. 22 Tobi is Jan. 30 or 31, and he is listed there for the Coptic Church. Should this be indicated somehow here?--Richardson mcphillips (talk) 16:23, 15 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Why a Certain Bizaardvark Castmate Not on the Births?

[edit]

As an IPV6 number, I had included him in births with the professions of a rapper, Internet personality and actor. Unfortunately, S0091 removed it and typed in a descriptor of Need reliable source for the former. He should be put back here and so his birth year of A.D. 1997. Please have a first response.
