The result of the debate was move the article to the Wikipedia namespace.
Note that this list doesn't currently serve the somewhat-useful-but-replaceable-by-a-category function of listing articles about widely used Perl programs (eg Slash, UseModWiki, Fink, etc). Instead, it lists articles that contain snippets of code (eg Hello World, Fibonacci number program). I'd vote delete on either list. See also Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/List of articles with C programs (result was to move article out of the main namespace). ~leif (talk)[[]] 04:57, 29 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Delete. Such a list could get infinitely long. --64.12.116.67 06:17, 29 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- ^^^ me again, sorry (cookie problems...)... I am voting delete. --Idont Havaname 06:19, 29 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Abstaining indefinitely on this one. To be fair and play the devil's advocate here, we do have list of movies which also holds an infinite potential. A better question is how many PERL programs are Wikipedic? And is that similarly as infinite? —RaD Man (talk) 06:33, 29 Nov 2004 (UTC)
delete, someone will create a category if it is required. --Tony Sidaway Talk 06:44, 29 Nov 2004 (UTC) Update: changed to abstain: --Tony Sidaway|Talk 00:27, 4 Dec 2004 (UTC)- comment: Note that I have now created Category:Perl software for articles about software written in Perl. ~leif ☺ HELO 08:17, 29 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Delete: Use the category instead. DCEdwards1966 17:59, Nov 29, 2004 (UTC)
- comment: I'm not sure that I understand the problem. There are notable Perl programs, and we should have a list of them... why not? func(talk) 18:47, 29 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Delete! This is much better managed by the use of categories. They exist for a reason. GRider\talk 18:50, 29 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Oops! I just made another Perl program. And another! Delete. Not encyclopedic. --Improv 07:21, 30 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- None of these voters have apparently read the article or the nomination. It is not a list of software written in Perl, but rather a list of articles that contain Perl programs. I would suggest moving it to Wikipedia:List of articles with Perl programs, and the Pascal list should suffer a similar fate. As the nominator points out, this is what was done with the C and Python lists. - Plutor 17:14, 1 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- That's funny, because a list of articles containing Perl programs is exactly what I thought it contained. These entries should all be tagged with the category Perl software where it is appropriate. I don't know what it is that makes you say that the previous voters did not read the article and the nomination. It seems like an unnecessarily broad statement. --Tony Sidaway|Talk 00:25, 2 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- Maybe it's a minor semantic difference. When I hear "software", I usually don't think of a four-line script in Fibonacci number program, I think of larger applications like Slash. In any case I apologize for my over-generalization. I don't really feel strongly one way or the other on what should happen with this list, but I do feel that whatever is decided should be applied to the Pascal, Python, and C lists as well. --Plutor 13:24, 3 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- I agree that since we're keeping lists of articles with code in other languages in the wikipedia namespace, we should do that with this too for now. Since I was the one who put this on VfD, I decided to "be bold" and move the article here despite the majority of delete votes. I hope nobody minds. ~leif ☺ HELO 20:52, 3 Dec 2004 (UTC)

- Delete. All the article contains are links, and these can be merged into the See Also section of the Perl article here instead: [1] --MPerel 20:23, Dec 1, 2004 (UTC)
I cannot agree with the idea that just because a list of articles containing C programs may exist we should have a list of articles containing Perl programs. I don't think it's a bad article, I just think all these lists of things are going to be difficult to maintain. I add cateogories to something like a dozen articles every day. If I had to seek out lists for each of the articles, I don't think I'd bother. There is something about having a hierarchical structure that makes maintenance a lot easier. I won't vote strong delete on this; I'll change my vote to abstain for now. Sorry, forgot to sign this. --Tony Sidaway|Talk 13:54, 5 Dec 2004 (UTC)
