I've never seen "Paulus" spelled with two l's before. Are you sure it's right? Deb 09:52 May 5, 2003 (UTC)

Early instances of the name have two Ls. Later writers and Greek writers used only one. Paullus in Smith's Dictionary of Greek and Roman Biography Amphipolis 12:56, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The article claims Varro was the Consul in command at Cannae but the evidence suggests that Paullus was in fact commanding that day(Connolly, 2006). Varro is credited with bringing about the defeat because the primary source of information on Cannae is Polybius, who as an adopted member of Paullus' family certainly added bias to his work.
