Inclusion of Corymb?
[edit]According to the Cambridge Glossary, cited as a source for this article, a corymb has the branching structure of a simple raceme not a panicle. It seems to me it would be more logical to include it in the article for raceme rather than here. Thoughts? Seanmcdill (talk) 01:53, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
- Agree; it's a problem. The Maloideae that are mentioned here are generally said to have corymbose inflorescences rather than actual corymbs. Perhaps there should be a page about corymbs and corymbose structures, rather than trying to jam them in with either the raceme or the panicle. Sminthopsis84 (talk) 08:42, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
- There's been an orphaned article at corymboid for years, while corymb has tons of incoming links and retargets here. There were several other redirect with links (corymbs, corymbose, corymbiform). I've started a crappy stub at corymb with everything else redirecting there. Plantdrew (talk) 03:43, 6 August 2016 (UTC)
Use in binomials section
[edit]I have taken the use as a name section out, because it does not belong on this page, the etymology may be readded with reliable sourcing, but the ad hock list of plants that have a derivation of panicle somewhere in the name fall under wp:cruft. Those names should be discussed on those articles, and a wikilink to panicle given there.--Kevmin § 16:19, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
- Etymology and use as an epithet would be appropriate to mention. Agree that a list of examples is not needed. If examples are to be given, they should be cases where a paniculate inflorescence distinguishes a species from most other members of the genus. Plantdrew (talk) 16:44, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
- Why is a list of examples not needed? I think it's very encyclopedic, and interesting, to include a list of examples of plant names which have paniculatus as the specific epithet.
- I'm baffled that you guys want to exclude some information and images which are perfectly appropriate to the subject. Darorcilmir (talk) 20:14, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
- Providing an example is useful as Plantdrew notes, but leaving a random uncurated list does not improve the article. --Kevmin § 17:02, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
