ReactOS was one of the Engineering and technology good articles, but it has been removed from the list. There are suggestions below for improving the article to meet the good article criteria. Once these issues have been addressed, the article can be renominated. Editors may also seek a reassessment of the decision if they believe there was a mistake. | ||||||||||||||||

Windows Applications that work with ReactOS
[edit]The sentence saying, "...many Windows Applications are currently working." This is not a true statement regarding ReactOS, and this is a major reason one would consider using ReactOS. Almost all Windows Programs installing on a CD will not work with ReactOS. For example: No Microsoft Office Version works well with ReactOS. Office, and almost all Windows programs will not install on ReactOS, since ReactOS is missing the proper DLL files to install them, and other necessary files to run Microsoft Office adequately. Running, "Buggy," is not really working. Most of the programs that are within the Applications Manager work quite well. There are a couple of game exceptions that do not work within the VirtualBox. ReactOS, is a great OS for a VirtualBox, (using 1 GB RAM). I am going to make a list of programs here that are good programs that I could get to run with ReactOS, and in my opinion, this should be an added part of the article. First, I threw a huge amount of programs at ReactOS from my collection. I could not get Office 97-XP to install, Office 2007 was too buggy to use. The only program I got working well from my collection was my Kasparov Chess Program from 2003. The following programs from the Applications Manager work well: Open Office 4.1.5, (XP compatible), Libre 5.1, (XP compatible), runs a bit slow,(too buggy for me), Abi Word 2.9, Web Browsers, Opera 9.6, and 12.18, Firefox 28, (XP compatible, Firefox 48 too buggy for me), MyPal 27.9.4, K-Meleon 75.1, and I was able to download and run SeaMonkey 2.9, and that runs well. I am on Firefox 28 as I am typing this, and MyPal is good, yet I have had it run buggy. It is actually amazing to me that some XP programs from the Applications Manager will even work. I am not able to find much outside information regarding this important information on what will and what will not work, just that almost all Windows programs do not work with ReactOS, yet some do well.Easeltine (talk) 02:12, 8 June 2020 (UTC)Easeltine (talk) 17:38, 3 November 2020 (UTC)
- I am still using ReactOS within VirtualBox. The fact remains that ReactOS is on the level of Windows 2000 without being able to run any Microsoft programs adequately. This OS has been stuck for 23 years.Easeltine (talk) 10:47, 10 May 2023 (UTC)
GA criteria
[edit]The article has cleanup tags for original research, and some information without an obvious source. This makes it an issue with the GA criteria. If not addressed, GA reassessment may be in order. (t · c) buidhe 21:14, 21 October 2020 (UTC)
GA Reassessment

As I stated on the TP, "The article has cleanup tags for original research, and some information without an obvious source." This is an issue with the GA criteria. (t · c) buidhe 08:29, 29 October 2020 (UTC)
- I don't see much OG, or lacking references except for feature section. A lot of them is self-published, though. – K4rolB (talk) 20:07, 11 March 2021 (UTC)

Are there any NATIVE applications?
[edit]Are there essentially any native applications written expressly for ReactOS itself? CaribDigita (talk) 05:39, 1 July 2022 (UTC)
Linux programs ported to Windows are not really Windows applications
[edit]The article says:
- However, many Windows applications are currently working, such as Adobe Reader 9.3, GIMP 2.6, and LibreOffice 5.4.[13][14]
Gimp and LibreOffice were ported to Windows, they are not native Windows applications, to be taken as a benchmark for ReactOS-Windows compatibility.
With my experience I think that ReactOS and Wine have fallen in the trap of the complexity of Windows, the only strategy that may work is to design a good essential library, that can be used via wrappers to the libraries used by Windows programmers and the libraries needed in Linux. In that way many programs originally written for Windows could be pored to Linux and vice versa. Both Windows and Linux (not the original Unix) are infected with the itch to put everything in a library, instead to write separate specialized procedures interacting wisely, as was the original Unix design.
Instead of such strategy, they were forced to try to clone Windows because the hardware manufacturers stick to proprietary undisclosed protocols.
Are those issues considered in the article? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2806:106E:B:E96C:6512:6CF3:A7D1:C1DE (talk) 18:56, 17 March 2023 (UTC)
With Linux or Windows we are able to use a VirtualBox, and put any Operating System within each other. For example: I am currently using ZorinOS, and have Windows 98SE, ReactOS, XP, and Windows 7 within ZorinOS. Also, with ZorinOS, I am able to use Wine and software called, Play With Linux, and I am able to use Microsoft Office 2007, and other Windows Programs within ZorinOS. With ReactOS we do not have the ability to use a VirtualBox within ReactOS or any real Windows, (like Microsoft), programs. These are the types of ideas that in some way should be included in the Article.Easeltine (talk) 15:33, 20 May 2023 (UTC)
