Two new Russia related stubs proposed created: East-Slavic-history stub and Russian-history stub

I suggest to create a new template (I can do it myself if there is a consensus) for a stub named above. Good candidates would be princes (knyaz'ya) for the period from Earlier East Slavic History (for example Yaropolk) or even from the later times (Knyaz Konstantin Konstantinovich Ostrozhskiy), events like the Battle on the Irpen' River or locations (like Ros' River), Halych, Chernyhiv/Chernigov, etc. Such stubs would cover the old time events that would have a place in history books of Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania and, to a lesser degree, Poland. Hist-stub seems too broad for such articles and ru-stub, ua-stub or by-stub seem too narrow and may also cause unnecessary flames. Please comment...

Also, having the Russian-history-stub seems appropriate in addition to ru-stub and ru-geo-stub. Is there a reason not to? Irpen 18:56, Mar 21, 2005 (UTC)

Since there were no objections, I just created the {{East-Slavic-history-stub}} and {{Russian-history-stub}} templates. To test drive them, I changed the stub messages in several articles from hist-stub, Russia-stub and Ukraine-stub to "East-Slavic-history stub" or "Russian-history-stub". Article that have these new stub templates at the bottom will appear in Category:East_Slavic_history_stubs or Category:Russian_history_stubs, respectively. I hope other editors will find it handy and use it in newly created articles in appropriate topics. If this stub usefulness passes the time test, we can gradually change stub notes in more ru- , ua- , by- and other related articles.

Sometimes it may be difficult to make a choice between these stubs. My opinion that most of what happened roughly over 100-150 years ago (maybe we can set a better threshold though) should go to one of the two historical stubs rather to Russia-stub. Historic locations (cities, rivers, regions) would get both geo-stub and history-stub templates. I admit that the choice between Russian-history and East-Slavic history categories is sometimes not crystal clear. My opinion, if in doubt use East-Slavic category. I hope everyone finds this useful. I found out that there was a dedicated Wikiproject devoted to ordering and sorting the stubs by being contacted by user:Grutness, who noticed two stubs I created. There is apparently a procedure to bring up new stub proposals at Wikipedia: WikiProject Stub sorting/Criteria. However, the stub sorters didn't question the rational of these stubs. Please look at the announcement at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Stub_sorting/Criteria#Newly-discovered_stub_categories. They would like to know should Category: Russian history stubs be a subcategory of Category:East Slavic history stubs. Could you please voice your opinions on that? Thanks! Hi - Grutness here from WP:WSS - I have a question: What is to be done with stubs relating to the history of the Soviet Union? East Slavic would make sense, but as I understand it that wouldn't cover the Central Asian republics, nor those in the Caucasus. Or should these wait until WP:WSS has decided how to divide up 20th century history stubs? Anything related to Soviet times should not go into East-Slavic category in any way, I think. The purpose I had in mind when creating a separate East-Slavic-history stub was not to provide a general cover for the histories of several nations, but to provide the separate category for the history of the time when East-Slavic people didn't yet evolve into three separate nations. I would build the rough timeline for categorization something like this:

• up to 14th century definitely all historical events of Kievan Rus, all post Kievan Rus Grand Duchies, including territories of Vladimir, Suzdal, Novgorod should go to East Slavic rather than Russian history category. Events related to the Halych-Volynia principality of that time should also go into East-Slavic rather than Ukrainian category
• 14th-16th centuries. Some events may go to Russian History category (or Ukrainian category), but many events are still in East-Slavic category.
• 16th, 17th and part of 18th century. Most events go to national history categories with very few still eligible to be classified into East-Slavic history as a whole.
• Last 200-250 years. Everything goes to the national history categories.

My opinion is that all National History categories and East Slavic history category should be independent subcategories of History category and not subcategories of each other in any way. Irpen 06:13, Mar 30, 2005 (UTC)

Dear All, I was wondering if you guys can check the work that was done on the Order of Victory page. A Wikipedian already put the names of various items in Russian and I want to see if the criteria of the Order and anything else you can think of is accurate. If you have the full list, add them now; it will encourage additions, and show us what the finished product will look like anyway. Would it look okay with the colour toned down somewhat? I definitely object to red text. That has a very specific, practical meaning in Wikipedia. The yellow background is more of a matter of taste. How about toning it down some? (I also made the table code a bit more concise in the version below.)

One more point: this template doesn't really add much to Category:Marshals of the Soviet Union.

Your right, I will have to change the red color. As for the gold color, I wish to keep it the same. Plus, once I begin to add the names that do not have articles, I believe it will have more substance than the category, since it only lists pages that have been completed on Marshals of the Soviet Union. Good point about the missing names. Would it make sense to subdivide them in the template, e.g. by date of appointment?

copyvio on ru:WP

I wanted to translate to English ru:Рушева, Надя and came to the conclusion that the article there is a copyvio. I posted a link to the article under Wikipedia:Copyright_problems#April_22, since I haven't found a similar listing over at ru:WP. I have now managed to convince the original submitter to at least put an acknowledging link to his main source, but I am still in doubt that it is legit as it is, esp. w/o direct quotation of the sources; it looks like >80% of the contents of the article is unoriginal. Great and Little Russia articles

Now with the Russia Wikiportal replacing the notice board for many purposes, I am not sure where to post announcements, so I will post another one here about two new articles available for edits.

Article Great Russia and Little Russia were just redirects to Russia and Ukraine, respectively. OTOH, there is a good White Russia article. So, both Great and Little Russia articles are now created that concetrate on the terms themselves and if anyone feels like improving them, please do so. Irpen 04:10, May 23, 2005 (UTC)

Rus' articles

I would like to have an Etymology of Rus and derivatives article moved to Rus. Then to place {{otheruses}} on the top of it, which would link to Rus (disambiguation) for articles on Rus' (people) and Kievan Rus'. The reason is that if one wants to link the word Rus within the body of the article, the Etimology article is the most likely place one would want it linked to. This would just make things easier. It can't be moved right now, because [[Rus]] is the article with an established history. So, it has to go through a "proposed move" page, I would like to get some feedback, whether the idea seems feasable to the editors who most likely care. Thanks! -Irpen 00:13, Jun 9, 2005 (UTC)

That makes sense, but I would go just a bit further. The list of East Slavic Rus'-related links could also go at the top of the etymology article, so one only has to refer to the disambiguation page if looking for the Danish and Yiddish words.

You may not have to go through the requested moves procedure for technical reasons. Rus doesn't have a history, although Rus' does—which do we want the article at? Lately I've been favouring titles in the simplified transliteration, without apostrophes. But Rus’ with the apostrophe is so commonly used that I think it's more instantly recognizable and unambiguous.

Incidentally, Rus' and Rus (disambiguation) have always been disambig pages without any real content, so there's no worry about losing their history. —Michael Z. 2005-06-17 04:29 Z

Russian name?

Missing at Muscovy Company. Could you also check for Russian interwiki link and perhaps add some more info from Russian language pages, if they exist? I find this company quite fascinating. Also, if you have access to Russian sources, could you check if the company had any dealings with Holy Roman Empire, Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and other non-UK/Muscovy countries? I confess to being rather Russia-ignorant, so I hope I am correct in thinking that these articles are in Russian. If not, I am sure you can point me in the right direction.  :-) We're just wondering about the phrase "Jacobi's theorem", I guess. No, I don't. There's no mention of the works by Moritz von Jacobi ( AKA Борис Семёнович Якоби), neither in general physics courses nor electrotechnics courses for high education (and I studied both of these not that long ago). But, there is a mention of the works by his brother, Carl Gustav Jakob Jacobi, in "theoretical mechanics" courses studied Russian math students in their late semesters (Russian: теоретическая механика, often abbreviated as термех by students) (see my link on the talk page for the list of books recommended by the Ministry of Education). This is the only sensible meaning of Jakobi's theorem (Теорема Якоби) that I've found. --DmitryKo 11:00, 17 August 2005 (UTC)

11. After the successful referendum on unification in Kamchatka Oblast and Permyakia, what's the date on which Kamchatka Krai will come into existence? This seems to suggest 1 January 2007, just like the Krasnoyarsk Krai merger, but it's not definite, is it?

And is the date I've read about for a referendum on merging in Irkutsk and Ust-Orda Buryatia, 16 April 2006, already official?

Small Gogol question

I have brief questions regarding some of the works listed on Nikolai Gogol. Are The Mysterious Portrait and The Portrait one work or two? Also, should Evenings on a Farm Near Dikanka, which seems to be the most common English language title, be rendered as something else, like Village Evenings near Dikanka and Morgorod, as it is listed in the "Works" section of the Gogol article? Mauthausen-Gusen

Hello all. I thought that some of you might be interested in further expansion and correction of the article on the Mauthausen-Gusen concentration camp complex. As Soviet people and Poles (of all nationalities) formed the largest group of all the inmates some of you might have access to some memoirs or monographs that could be useful.
